Passageways Travel Joins ASTA’s Corporate Advisory Council

TRAVERSE CITY, MI October 28, 2006
Passageways Travel, an American Express Travel Representative, has joined the American Society of Travel Agents’ (ASTA) Corporate Advisory Council (CAC), the body that ensures the Society’s voice is heard on national issues, within the industry and with government agencies and legislatures.

"The Corporate Advisory Council leads the way for the travel community and its customers,” said William A. Maloney, CTC, executive vice president and COO of the Society. "We welcome Passageways to this influential group, where its experience and reputation will increase the strength and expertise of the Council.”

"Passageways Travel is honored and proud to serve on the Corporate Advisory Council of ASTA, the world’s largest travel agent association,” said Tom McIntyre, Chairman and CEO of Passageways. "ASTA is the primary voice for travel professionals across the nation and around the world. They assist us daily in assuring we have the tools to deliver for our customers.”

Comprising representatives of major travel agency consortia, franchise organizations and independent agencies, the CAC works with ASTA to inform and educate legislators, decision-makers and the general public on such key issues as:

  • extension of the deadlines for implementing new passport regulations;
  • passage of Section 145, which ensures that a bankrupt airline supply its ticket-holding passengers with alternate transportation up to 60 days after it suspends operation charging no more than $50 each way for doing so;
  • continuation of the Department of Transportation’s One Price Policy, which clarifies what is and is not a deceptive airline ticket price; and
  • deregulation of the giant Global Distribution Services (GDS), electronic travel reservation systems through which travel agents gain access to schedules, pricing and availability for their clients.

Passageways joins such influential travel organizations as American Express, The Travel Authority, Carlson Travel Franchise Group, Protravel International, Omega World Travel, Vacation.com, Uniglobe Travel International, Travelink, Azumano Travel American Express, IAC/InterActive Corp, Orbitz Worldwide, Travelocity.com, Jurni Network/Nexion, Virtuoso and RADIUS on the Council.
