The Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has formed a strategic partnership with Passageways Travel to facilitate the Bureau’s telephone reservations operation.

“The purpose is to provide a more effective and efficient system of handling the increased call volume we’ve been experiencing and to provide the best possible customer service to those interested in coming to our area,” said Brad Van Dommelen, CVB president.

Enhanced advertising by the Bureau has increased traffic on the reservation system, which handles calls from potential visitors to the region who want information on the area and who need help with selecting lodging and making reservations. The 800 number is posted on promotional materials and press releases in and out of state.

Passageways’ “state-of-the-art” electronic reservation systems can handle a much larger volume of calls than the CVB’s current internal system, Van Dommelen pointed out. Plus, Passageways staffs into the evenings and on weekends.

Starting Jan. 1, when customers call the CVB’s toll-free number their questions will be handled by Passageways operators.

“The phone will be answered as if it was being picked up in our office and the customer will receive helpful and expedient service,” Van Dommelen said.
